Pretreatment by means of microsieving

CarbonExtract® for primary sludge extraction

Pretreatment by microsieving is an essential step towards energy-efficient wastewater treatment. The process is based on our Noggerath® Drum Screen RSH-MG, which enables the separation of solids through fine screening of raw wastewater.

The Passavant® CarbonExtract® process is an attractive alternative to conventional preclarification. It offers significantly smaller dimensions and an optional flocculation unit that allows for a considerably increased extraction of carbon. The highly organic screenings can be used in anaerobic sludge stabilization (digestion) to produce biogas or through combustion/gasification technologies.

Insights

Core of the Process

The core of the process is our Noggerath® Drum Screen RSH-MG, which almost completely sieves off impurities such as hair, fibers, oil, grease, and other organic contaminants. This relieves subsequent cleaning processes and improves the operational safety of sewage treatment plants. The process has proven itself as a pretreatment unit for membrane filtration, conventional activated sludge plants, or biofilm processes.

Additional Benefits

An optional integrated dewatering system for the screenings and innovative cleaning of the mesh make the system very compact and maintenance-friendly. The process optimally supports the conversion to anaerobic sludge stabilization, focusing on the reduction of aeration energy and offering the possibility to energetically use biogas to reduce the energy costs of a wastewater treatment plant.

Fields of Application

  • Space-saving upgrade of existing wastewater treatment plants
  • Simple and effective capacity increase of overloaded wastewater treatment plants
  • Contribution to becoming an energy-optimized sewage treatment plant
  • Replacement of a conventional primary clarifier
